Our Charmers are not only delicious but made with organic/all natural ingredients that are environmentally friendly. Simply stated, all natural foods go through minimal processing, thereby using less energy to produce than their chemically-altered, processed counterparts. In addition, organic farming eliminates the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers which means 1) less pollution in our groundwater, rivers, lakes, and oceans; 2) less soil erosion; 3) better soil quality; and 4) and more diversity of wildlife on and near our farms. The end result is reducing our carbon foot print on the environment.
OUR INGREDIENTS:
Organic Maple Syrup
Maple syrup is an unrefined sweetener; it undergoes minimal processing during production, thereby making it less impactful on our earth. Unrefined sweeteners generally contain more flavor and are less processed than refined sugars. An unrefined cane sugar is produced from raw sugar and has not been subject to the same removal of nutrients, flavor and color as has refined sugar. Maple syrup is not typically used as a sweetner in commercial baked goods, due to its expense, but its taste is unmatched, yielding a higher quality cookie.
Organic Unsweetened Coconut
Coconut is a natural sweetener. We use it sparingly to provide a subtle taste that enhances the flavor of the chocolate chips.
Organic Oats
Oats are made from the ground or rolled seeds of oat grass. Oats and oatmeal products are believed to be a natural wonder food because of their high water-soluble fiber content. Oats serve as the primary base of our cookie.
Organic Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
When white flour is processed, the wheat kernel is stripped of its bran and germ, the most nutrient-dense parts of the grain. Whole-wheat flour, on the other hand, retains both layers, along with its vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and fiber. A whole grain has the entire kernel still intact. The kernel consists of the bran, germ and endosperm. It provides fiber, B vitamins and trace minerals. The germ's function is to provide nourishment to the seed, if it were to sprout, thus providing antioxidants, vitamin A and vitamin E. A refined grain (white flour) has been processed so that only the endosperm remains. Even still, we use a minimal amount of whole wheat pastry flour, replacing it mostly with oats.
Leaveners
Most cookies on our supermarket shelves use leaveners (i.e. baking soda or baking powder). Striving to simplify and use all natural ingredients, we eliminated them without sacrificing taste or texture, thereby making our Charmers a more natural choice.
